FCC NOTICE:

Beginning May 20, 2021, all amateur examination applicants will be required to provide an FCC Registration Number (FRN) to the Volunteer Examiners (VEs) before taking an amateur exam. This is necessary due to changes the FCC has made to its licensing system.

Amateur candidates who already have an FCC license, whether for amateur radio or in another service, already have an FRN and can use the same number. All prospective new FCC licensees, however, will be required to obtain an FRN before the examination and provide that number to the volunteer examiners on the Form 605 license application. An FCC instructional video provides step-by-step instructions on how to obtain an FRN through the FCC’s COmmission REgistration System (CORES).

The FRN is required for all new applicants to take an amateur exam and is used afterward by the applicant to download the license document from the FCC Universal Licensing System (ULS), upgrade the license, apply for a vanity call sign, and to submit administrative updates (such as address and email changes) and renewal applications.

Rules
  1. Please register for testing by contacting John Reynolds (W4TXA) via phone or email in advance if possible. We will take walk-ins, but pre-registration is requested.
  2. As we will be practicing Social Distancing, testing will be indoors. We will have several tables at safe distances. Tables and chairs will be disinfected between users.
  3. Please bring your identification. (passport or state issued identification) See item #2 (What You Need) for other forms of identification that are accepted.
  4. Bring cash for payment of fees.

ARRL Youth Licensing Grant Program Information
Beginning April 19, 2022, ARRL will cover the one-time $35 application fee for new license candidates younger than 18-years old for tests administered under the ARRL Volunteer Examiner Coordinator (ARRL VEC) program. The $35 FCC application fee will be reimbursed after the ARRL VEC receives the completed reimbursement form and the new license has been issued by the FCC. The reimbursement check will be mailed to the fee payer. Also, candidates younger than 18-years old would pay a reduced exam session fee of $5 cash to the ARRL VEC VE team at the time of the exam. The $5 cash fee is for all candidates under the age of 18 regardless of the exam level taken. Proof of under 18 status is required at the session (what to bring to an exam session). 

What You Need to bring

If you hold an FCC license, please bring a copy of it for your (FRN) Federal Registration Number. Others must apply for an FRN before your exam.
If you are a licensed amateur and wish to upgrade, please bring a copy of your license that we can keep or a copy of your CSCE we can keep if you are newly licensed. As this is an ARRL Exam session, there is a fee of $15.00 cash only .

See special notice below from FCC. You now need an FRN number when you test for your first license (ie Technician Class), as May 20, 2021.

 1.  One legal photo ID (identification):           
           a. State Driver’s License
           b. Government issued Passport
           c. Military or Law Enforcement Officer Photo ID card
           d. Student School Photo ID card
           e. State Photo ID card

      2.  If no photo ID is available, two forms of identification:
           a. Non-photo State ID card (some states still have them)
           b. Birth certificate (must have the appropriate seal)
           c. Social security card
           d. Employer's wage statement or Minor's work permit
           e. School ID card
           f. School or Public Library card
           g. Utility bill, bank statement or other business correspondence that
               specifically names the person; or a postmarked envelope addressed
               to the person at his or her current mailing address as it appears on
               the Form 605.

      3.  Students/minors without a photo ID need to bring only one of the
           above items if a legal guardian presents their photo ID; otherwise 
           two non-photo IDs are required.
           Minor children (under the age of 18) may be accompanied in the 
           room by an adult during the test.

      4.  Social Security Number (SSN) AND  your FCC issued Federal
           Registration Number (FRN); VEC’s are required by the FCC to submit  either your SSN or your FRN number with your license application
           form. (see the special notice above)
           NOTICE: If you prefer not to give your SSN at the exam session, then
           you may register your SSN with the FCC before exam day. Once you
           have a FCC issued FRN, you may no longer use your SSN on the
           application.

           exam teams will only accept a valid FRN on your application.
